How We Can Help
Comfort for today. Hope for tomorrow.
At Karen's Closet for Breast Cancer Care, Inc., we understand that recovering from breast cancer surgery can be physically and emotionally challenging. From the difficult days of managing surgical drains to the weeks of healing that follow, even simple everyday activities can become overwhelming.
We provide electric recliners and other recovery essentials to breast cancer patients living in Howard County, Maryland — at absolutely no cost.
Our goal is to provide comfort, safety, and peace of mind during a challenging time — for both the patient and their family or caregivers.
Why an Electric Recliner Helps with Recovery
After breast cancer surgery, finding a comfortable place to rest, getting in and out of bed, and managing surgical drains can be difficult. An electric recliner provides a supportive place to rest and recover while helping patients maintain greater comfort and independence during the challenging days and weeks following surgery.
Always follow your surgeon’s postoperative instructions.
Recovery needs and recommendations may vary from person to person.
Sleep More Comfortably
Many breast surgeons recommend sleeping in an elevated position during the early weeks following a mastectomy, sometimes for up to six weeks. An electric recliner provides a comfortable, supportive place to rest while maintaining an elevated position.
Elevation may help reduce swelling and protect healing incisions.
Helps Manage Surgical Drains
Managing surgical drains can make the days following breast cancer surgery especially challenging. Patients can keep drain bulbs and tubing accessible and secure while maintaining comfort.
Reduces Upper-Body Strain
An electric recliner eliminates the need to push or pull a manual lever, helping patients follow post-surgical movement restrictions and avoid stain on healing chest, arm, and shoulder muscles.
Promotes Independence and Peace of Mind
An electric recliner allows patients to adjust their position with greater ease and independence which is especially helpful when arm and shoulder movement is limited.
It provides comfort, safety, and peace of mind during a challenging time — for both the patient and their family or caregivers.
More than just a chair — comfort for your recovery, support for your journey, and a reminder that you are not alone.
Other Recovery Items
In addition to electric recliners, we provide practical support items to help make breast cancer treatment and recovery a little more comfortable. These include mastectomy pillows, wedge pillows, and drain pocket shirts for surgical recovery, as well as cold therapy mittens and booties for use during chemotherapy.
We also provide care packages which vary based on donated items and availability.
